So, I’m supporting two people

on December 23, 2012

And it’s scary.

Funny eggs

Stressed, worried, just a little

Back Story: I am not pregnant or having a kid of having my parental unit to come and live with me or anything that scary! You may know that my girlfriend recently quit her job. I’m proud.

However, her last paycheck was at the nd of November and a new one won’t be coming in for a while.

Yet, Leeds City Council have refused to give her money towards her rent. Because I’m earning too much.

Lots of British money

Yeah, right

To be honest, once my most recent pay rise kicks in, I probably should be earning enough to support two people. That is, I’ll be earning what I was earning two years ago plus what my girlfriend was earning recently, so surely that should cover us both.

Still, it’s a large responsibility that I’m worried about bearing.

Going from paying 60%-75% of the bills to paying 100% of the bills and also 100% of the rent, kind of worries me.

I do have an emergency fund of nearly £4,000. I would rather not use it unless my salary isn’t enough to cover us both. We shall see. Getting a job is hard work but I’m sure we can manage until then.

I’ll be sure to keep you guys up to date with my efforts. I love my girlfriend a lot and know she will get a paying job eventually (she’s already got a volunteer job) but wish her luck nevertheless.

In the mean time have a great Christmas and New Year – and don’t get into debt in the mean time!
