How those old games could make you a bit of Christmas spending money

on December 10, 2012

I guys, today we have a guest post on how to make a bit of last minute Christmas money from the guys over at Music Magpie – so please enjoy!

N64 Jaguar Games Consoles

Kind of looks like my bedroom

Games consoles and new game are big sellers year-round, but come Christmas and demand is even greater. Eagerly-anticipated launches around this time of year have seen gamers pre-order months in advance and join mad rushes and crazy queues to get their hands on the latest gadget. Technology develops at a rapid rate though, and it seems that no sooner has one console or game hit the shelves, that another better version is being touted. As a result many of us have old consoles and games lying around the house. Rather than creating clutter, why not have a clear-out of your old tech, and make some money at the same time?

Superman Present Gift

I just really wanted to use this picture

It’s simple to sell computer games for cash, as well as your unwanted consoles, by heading online. Sites like Music Magpie provide an easy-to-use service and in return for your items, will reward you with a swift payment! This is much-needed at this time of year, when the cost of seasonal fare, events and pressies can deplete the finances of even the savviest of spenders. You can choose to receive your payment in a number of ways: a cheque or bank transfer may be the most convenient, or you can receive e-vouchers, which is a sensible option if you’re putting your earnings towards Christmas presents. If you’re sorted with your seasonal shopping and are feeling in a philanthropic mood you can even have your payment donated to charity – Christmas is a time of giving after all!

Play Station Controller

Yep. I know the sight of this very well

Remember the days when the PS1 and 2 were regarded as innovative and high-tech consoles? Now these have been superseded by the PS3 so if you’re still gaming on one of the older machines, you may consider an upgrade. Or perhaps you are not one for brand loyalty and instead are simply after the newest and best in the gaming world. If so, the Wii U is for you. The newest release from Ninendo promises better graphics and new features for a more immersive gaming experience. As a result, it also comes with a hefty price tag. Rather than scrimping and saving to make this purchase for yourself or a loved one, get business-minded and sell those unwanted items!

GameBoy

The last time I played one of these was… last week

Back in the days of the humble Game Boy, selling your stuff involved lugging possessions to a car boot and paying for a pitch. Now, Music Magpie offers selling from your own home – and totally free too! Use their Send Service to post your items, or if you really don’t want to leave the house, arrange a convenient time with their Courier service and have consoles and games collected from our doorstep.

Wii U

Ooooh shiny.

The release of the Wii U will be accompanied by a slew of games and accessories, so the more you can de-clutter from your home and sell, the more you’ll have in the kitty for new tech! Whether buying for someone else this Christmas, or treating yourself, purchasing new gaming gear needn’t involve a bank-busting splurge, by trading in old items for cash.

Yeah, I gave my N64 to charity (I should have sold it but was very much in need of de-cluttering) and thought “hmmm I’d really like to play this game… oh wait, it’s an N64 Game” – sigh – no way to win!
